The Ghosts Win

When I look back at this collection of songs and listen to it now, having worked on it on and off for almost two years, having had its delivery date delayed and its launch postposed indefinitely by Covid-19, I am struck by how the songs, like everything else, have been transformed as a result of the radically different world we now live in.

From Rainer Maria Rilke, words which seem to sum up the spirit of so many of these new songs and the uncertainty of our times: "Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves.” I started out writing something about each of the ten songs in this collection, only to change my mind ; I have instead posed ten questions, one for each one song.

Afraid of a perceived threat, did you ever overreact and live to regret it?

Ever seriously challenge the ghosts from your past and the power they have over your present relationships?
