Heading South (2003)

Heading South is a celebratory collection... songs of love, loss, doubt, hope and courage, drawn from life (and a lifetime's worth) of musical influences and exploration: traditional country and bluegrass, folk, blues and rock & roll. From the turner-over upside-downer opening tune, Dancer, to the tell-it-like-it-is up-tempo bluegrass flavour of I have it All With You, to the poignant gentleness of Blue Sky, a consistent authentic voice runs through these 11 songs. The result is a remarkably generous and mature initial offering.

Jim's songs and multitalented producer/musician Jason Lang's rich guitar oriented production values and vocal arrangements add up to a musical collaboration to keep an eye on. Heading South has a warm open sound that includes contributions from an impressive line-up of Quebec session players... signature understated keyboard tracks by Kenneth Pearson, steel guitar and fiddle tracks by Jean-Guy Grenier and André Proulx, with solid contributions from drummer Michel Roy, National guitarist Paul Deslauriers, and vocalist Linda Morrison.

Going back to 2003, “Heading South” is a set about love, loss, doubt, hope and courage, drawn from life (and a lifetime's worth) of musical influences and exploration. “After the many years of writing songs that turned out to be my preparation and training as a songwriter this 1st CD was a kind of dream come true for me.”
